Irvin Fred Harrod, better known as "Bud, " was a local Louisville entrepreneur and investor. Bud dabbled his hands into many industries but it was not until 1970 that Bud invested into purchasing a security door company, thus, the formation of Homeowners Security Doors. Bud had a small team of iron workers who became like part of his family, and the business grew an evolved.
From making solely iron security doors, the company began to make other iron products such as fences, gates, railings, and even mailboxes. In 1986, Home Security Doors became HSD Ironworks, Inc. Bud created a truly local, family owned and operated business, passing down his skills and knowledge to his son Fred Harrod, Sr. Fred and his youngest son, Mark Harrod currently own and operate the business in Louisville's west end.
