The art of fencing is in demand! Who does not want an exciting sport or a fun recreational activity? Strategy, focus, controlled movements, the precision of blade work, coordination, speed will be yours with practice! The Atlantic Fencing Academy in Tinton Falls, as one of the oldest and well-established clubs in New Jersey, opened its doors in 1999.
At Atlantic, we welcome all skill levels and ages. While some fencers strive to make National and Olympic teams, others just want to prove themselves. Some focus on fencing in high schools or colleges. Many do it for their love of the sport and to maintain or improve their personal health and fitness. Similar to the dueling swords of the mid-19th century, epees have stiff blades with a triangular cross-section and large bell guards.
Descended from the 18th-century small sword, the foil has a thin, flexible blade with a square cross-section and a small bell guard. Descended from dueling sabers of the late 19th century, which were, in turn, descended from naval and cavalry swords, sabers have a light, flat blade, and a knuckle guard.

Students describe fencing as a physical "game of chess."
It takes strategy and quick reflexes.
Your opponent can make an attack in any number of ways and your defense needs to come in a split second, and in the next split second, you've got to make your attack.
Fencers learn good sportsmanship, self-discipline, gain quick reflexes, and how to compete independently.
They are active and doing something, not being passive receptacles for programming beamed out from the TV.
